Discover Modernism with Santiago Rusiñol

Live a unique cultural experience with our Modernism Route in Sitges, focused on the key figure of Catalan modernism: Santiago Rusiñol. Artist, writer and collector, Rusi’ol turned Sitges into a cultural reference, attracting outstanding artists and intellectuals of the time.

Sitges Modernist Festivals

Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Sitges hosted five modernist festivals, organized by Rusiñol alongside friends such as Miquel Utrillo and Ramon Casas. These events, held at the famous Cau Ferrat Museum, embodied the spirit of Total Art and became iconic in the history of Modernisme.

What will we see during the visit?

The route begins at Sitges train station square, where we will discover the Modernist expansion and the spectacular ‘Americanos’ houses, wealthy returnees from the colonies who built Modernist-style buildings that still adorn the town.
We will also see works by architects like Gaietà Bohigas, who left their mark on local architecture.
Afterwards, we will delve into Sitges’ old town, where we will visit:

The old Modernist market

The old 14th-century wall

➤ The exteriors of Sitges’ main museums, such as:

Cau Ferrat Museum, Santiago Rusiñol’s house-studio

Museu Maricel

Maricel Palace

In each space, we will discover its history, architecture, and importance within the Modernist movement.
