A journey through art and memory
The Route of Souls is a guided tour full of history, art, and emotion.
We invite you to discover the Sitges cemetery, a unique space where architectural and sculptural beauty combines with centuries of silence and memory.
The old Sitges cemetery, originally located in front of the parish church, was moved in 1814 to the outskirts of the town, beyond Sant Sebastià beach. Today, this space is part of the urban center and retains its Mediterranean cloister structure, with a central chapel and elevated perimeter walls.
The cemetery gardens are designed to evoke emotions: trees, shrubs, and plants specially chosen for a funerary garden that invites reflection.
The Sitges cemetery is an authentic open-air museum. It houses funerary sculptures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, testament to the passage of the “americanos”, the ‘indianos’ who adorned their graves with monumental works.
Notable pieces by artists such as Josep Llimona, Frederic Marès, Manuel Fuxà, Agapit Vallmitjana, Alejandro Mariotti, Josep Reynés, Joan Rebull, or Pere Jou stand out, as well as works by renowned architects.
A tour of the Route of Souls is also a journey through time, memory, and the artistic spirit of Sitges.
